She made her remarks during a conference-debate organized by the collective “Who I’am”, in French, “Qui je suis”. This conference aimed to raise awareness among Congolese people in general and young people in particular regarding the risks and dangers of breast and/or uterine cancer. Among the people to raise awareness as a priority are those who are sexually active, in this case adolescents and adults, said the speaker.

According to her, generally speaking, the success of awareness raising requires the availability of funds by patrons, sponsors or health authorities. She criticized the fact that awareness often only affects part of the professionally active population. “ We should think regarding going into markets, neighborhoods and villages to raise awareness among the population, particularly people who are poor and disadvantaged. This is our new battle “, she said.

Furthermore, she lamented, “ Most people who come to the hospital for breast and/or uterine cancer end up dying within weeks or months. It’s sad, but it’s true! The reason is that these people come to consult us at too advanced a stage of the disease. It is often difficult to catch up with them “, she lamented.

Speaking on the occasion, the president of the Who I’am collective, Ms. Sarah Kamaelle Mavoinenzela, stressed that no one is immune to breast and/or uterine cancer. “ The disease does not only affect others, it can affect everyone. Reason why the Congolese should massively take part in conferences and awareness campaigns on pathologies considered taboo “, did she say.

Apart from the conference-debate, the collective, currently made up of seven permanent members, organized a sporting activity on October 29. This physical activity was intended to help participants strengthen their immune systems.

Note that these two days were placed on the theme “ Unite our voices and take action once morest breast and uterine cancer.”
