A bad habit that causes noise pollution, but above all sends exhaust gases around when it is completely useless. “Not embarrassed, with your engine running?”challenges the leaflet produced by the children.
And to make this action a reality, it is the students who will distribute the document to motorists, at the exit of each school. This Tuesday at the end of the course, it was in Bornival that two young advisers, Marius and Diego, handed the leaflet to the drivers or placed it on the windshields, helped by their friend Thomas. The local police were also present to support the action.
The police have also visited the classrooms beforehand and have pointed out in particular that an article of the Highway Code meets the environmental concerns of children: article 8.6 indicates that “Drivers should be careful not to leave the engine running in neutral unless necessary.”
And as the city’s “Youth” project manager, Virginie Lecouturier, pointed out on Tuesday in Bornival, the question was asked by the children to the police: leave the engine running so that the heating continues to work and thus be very warm in the car. interior of the car is not considered a case of necessity…

After Bornival on Tuesday, the action will continue on Thursday at La Maillebotte. Other Nivelles establishments will be concerned at the start of the school year.
