Rainy Start to the Francos: Rosie Valland and Ariane Roy Light Up the Stage

The day started in the rain on Tuesday, but the clearings at the beginning of the evening made it possible to completely revive the atmosphere of the Francos.

At suppertime, Rosie Valland walked onto the Loto-Québec stage, across from the Maison symphonique, as the bells of nearby churches were ringing. The sun meanwhile broke through the clouds before the end of its opening song, “Exile”.

For nearly an hour, the singer-songwriter played songs from her most recent album “Emmanuelle” there, in front of an audience that gradually filled up. Some had brought their lunch there to eat on the grass, others were dancing to his pop-electro, in front of the stage.

For her first Francos, Rosie Valland “was super stressed”, but on stage, nothing seemed to be there. She even seemed quite comfortable, interacting with the crowd a few times and navigating her play space. During her presentation, she also offered Mylène Farmer’s cover of “Disenchanted”, a song she rediscovered during the pandemic, which was well received by the varied public who came to see it.

Sylvie, who came to the festival on foot, directly following work, found the young artist “really impressive”. “I came to see Lisa LeBlanc, who is right following Ariane Roy, and I discovered Rosie Valland as a result. I found it excellent!”, she told the QMI Agency, a few minutes following her show.

The lady confessed that she probably wouldn’t have come if it had rained harder. The light showers were not too disturbing, however.

Same story for Laurie, a regular at the Francos. “I came to see Ariane Roy tonight and then I’m going to try to see Lisa LeBlanc. I might have just dressed differently if we had announced heavier rains,” she said.

Ariane Roy’s solo seduction

At 8 p.m., it was Ariane Roy’s turn to take to the Loto-Québec stage to present her solo material. Last year, almost at the same date, the singer-songwriter shared this same stage with Lou-Adriane Cassidy and Thierry Larose for the show “Le roy, la rose et le lou(p)”.

“I’m so happy to come back this year and perform my show. It’s like the last summer of my tour that we started two years ago, ”she shared with her audience at the start of the presentation.

Equipped with her electric guitar, and sometimes seated behind her synthesizer, she offered a good potpourri of her musical catalog both for those who discovered her on Tuesday evening, and for the admirers who have followed her since her very beginnings. She notably played pieces from her album “medium pleasure”, such as “Le paradis de l’amour”, “Automne” and “Ce n’est pas de chance”.

“I know there are some uncool things going on right now, but we’re focusing on the present moment. We forget everything that happens the time of a tune”, she launched, continuing with “The sky is in place”.

While the sky darkened as the songs progressed, Ariane Roy’s contagious energy, encouraged by the ever-growing crowd, did not wane during her performance. At the end of the presentation, she also invited Valence, with whom she did the Francovertes, to join her on stage to perform the song “Charlie”.
