Rain game in Major League Soccer: Shaqiri puts the Chicago Fire ahead

Xherdan Shaqiri struck in the 17th minute of the Chicago Fire vs. New York Red Bulls game in American Major League Soccer (MLS). He scored to make it 1-0 – it’s his second goal for the US club. After a handball by the opponent, the Swiss converted the penalty without any problems.

His club thanks him, among other things, with a post on Twitter. “We have faith in Xherdan Shaqiri.”

New York Red Bull tried to equalize a little later. But a hit by Captain Aaron Long was ruled void.

Shortly before half time it was pouring rain and thunderstorms, which forced the teams into the early break. The game resumed following more than half an hour at 9:15 p.m. local time. The Chicago Fire was able to keep it 1-0 for a long time, but finally equalized in the 75th minute – and then it only went downhill. Two players were given yellow and red in quick succession and had to leave the field. In the 87th minute, New York Red Bull converted a penalty, which led to the final result of 1:2 from the perspective of the Chicago Fire.
