The heavy rain that occurred on Saturday night in Puerto La Cruz prevented the match between Leones del Caracas and Caribes de Anzoátegui from taking place, corresponding to the recent round of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP).
The downpour forced the stoppage of the match at the Alfonso “Chico” Carrasquel stadium, when the end of the fourth inning was being played, there were two outs and La Tribu Oriental dominated the score 4-0.
The maintenance personnel of the Anzoatiguense troop placed a tarp to protect the field for several hours and when they removed it, the LVBP referees checked the infield and noticed that the field was not suitable to continue the regular round confrontation. For that reason they decreed the suspension of the crash at 10:15 pm.
As the five regulatory chapters to decree legal gambling were not completed, the commitment statistics were not valid. The cap was rescheduled for November, the press department of La Maquinaria Indígena reported in a brief statement, published on social networks. The date of the confrontation will be announced in the coming days.
Sunday showdown
This Sunday, at 3:00 pm, a challenge between long-haired and indigenous people will take place that will lower the curtain on the activities of both teams for the third week of the 2024-2025 season.
At the University Park in Caracas, Tiburones de La Guaira whitewashed Águilas del Zulia 10-0. There Ricardo Pinto won and Porfirio López lost.
After the Saturday round, La Guaira (9-4) occupies the top of the table, followed by Tigres de Aragua (7-5), Navegantes del Magallanes (7-6), Caribes (6-6), Cardenales de Lara ( 6-7), Leones (5-7), Bravos de Margarita (5-7) and Águilas del Zulia (5-8).

Interview with Carlos Mendoza, Sports Commentator on the LVBP Rain-Out Incident
Interviewer (I): Carlos, thank you for joining us today. Can you tell us what happened during the postponed match between Leones del Caracas and Caribes de Anzoátegui?
Carlos Mendoza (CM): Absolutely, thank you for having me. The game was in the fourth inning when heavy rain hit the Alfonso “Chico” Carrasquel stadium. At that moment, the Caribes were leading 4-0, and there were two outs on the board. The rain came suddenly, forcing the game to stop.
I: That’s quite a sudden turn of events. How did the stadium staff react to the weather conditions?
CM: The maintenance crew took immediate action by placing a tarp over the field to protect it from the rain. They worked hard to prep the field for play to resume after the downpour, which lasted several hours.
I: After the rain, what was the procedure for determining whether the match could continue?
CM: Once the rain stopped, the referees inspected the field. Unfortunately, they determined that the infield conditions were unsuitable for play, leading to the official suspension of the game at around 10:15 PM. It was disappointing, especially for the fans who came out to support both teams.
I: How does this rain-out affect the teams’ standings in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League?
CM: This particular incident means that both teams will have to wait for a rescheduled game to settle their matchup. It can have implications for standings as every game counts toward playoffs, and missed opportunities can influence the overall performance of a team in the league.
I: What are the implications for fans and ticket holders following a rain-out like this?
CM: Usually, when a game is postponed, the league will inform fans about ticket exchanges or refunds. It can be frustrating for supporters who planned to watch the game, but the league aims to ensure everyone is informed about rescheduling and any potential compensations.
I: Thank you, Carlos, for your insights on this rain-out situation. Hopefully, we’ll see both teams back on the field soon.
CM: My pleasure! Let’s hope for better weather and an exciting matchup when they do return to play.

I: When did the decision come to fully suspend the match, and what were the conditions like after the rain stopped?
CM: The decision to suspend the game was made around 10:15 PM after LVBP referees inspected the infield. Unfortunately, they determined that the conditions were still not suitable for play, as the ground remained wet and unplayable.
I: This has implications for the league standings as well, correct?
CM: Yes, indeed. Since they didn’t complete the required five innings to make the stats valid, the match record will not count. The game is set to be rescheduled for November, and the league will announce the specific date in the coming days.
I: How do you think this rain-out impacts the teams going forward, considering their standings?
CM: It creates a bit of disruption, particularly for the Caribes who were in a solid position. They were trying to stay competitive as they sit around .500 in the standings. The momentum is crucial in these matches, especially in a tournament setting like this.
I: Thank you for your insights, Carlos. Any last thoughts on how the teams will prepare for their next match?
CM: I think both teams will need to focus on their mental game now. They have to shake off the disappointment of the rain-out and return to form. The next game is critical for maintaining their positions in the standings, so they’ll be looking to come back strong.
I: Thank you, Carlos. We appreciate your expertise on this matter.
CM: My pleasure! Always happy to talk about baseball.
