Rain and Heavy Traffic Cause Major Disruptions: Traffic Jams and Delays on Brussels Outer Ring

2023-09-21 15:40:33

Rain and heavy traffic caused major disruptions on the roads on Thursday, with 27 kilometers of traffic jams on the northern half of the Brussels outer ring, between Wezembeek-Oppem and Anderlecht, according to the Flemish Traffic Center (Vlaams Verkeerscentrum). The journey time will be extended by two hours.

If the autumn season begins on Thursday, it is also the traffic jam season which begins, while October and November are the busiest months on the roads.

Thursday morning, records had already been set during rush hours, with 280 kilometers of cumulative queues, which did not quite disappear over the course of the day. Exceptional traffic jams were recorded by the Vlaams Verkeerscentrum all day. Several accidents were reported from 10:00 a.m., further aggravating the disruption.
