Rain and cloudiness are expected in the country due to the passage of tropical wave number 27

  • Meteorologist Luis Vargas estimates that the tropical wave has a 20% chance of becoming a tropical cyclone.

The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (INAMEH) reported on August 4 that it is monitoring an atmospheric disturbance associated with tropical wave number 27, which is expected to reach Venezuela in the evening.

According to the meteorological agency’s monitoring, between August 5 and 6 the tropical wave will cause widespread rains throughout the country and cloudy areas in the Capital District, Miranda, La Guaira, southwest Bolívar, northern Amazonas, Delta Amacuro, Monagas, western plains and Zulia.

Inameh also reported that tropical wave number 28 is currently near Cape Verde, and is expected to reach Venezuelan territory starting on August 8.

What is a tropical wave?

A tropical wave is a meteorological phenomenon consisting of a type of trough, which causes areas of clouds and storms. These systems form in the west of the African continent and move from east to west across the Atlantic Ocean.

Inameh indicated that between 55 and 65 tropical waves will pass through Venezuela during the 2024 rainy season.

According to meteorologist Luis Vargas, the National Hurricane Center is monitoring tropical wave number 27.
