Rain Alert in Belgium: Heavy Downpour and Potential Storms Expected – Stay Prepared!

2023-07-24 05:23:48

The MRI has launched, since Monday morning 5 a.m., a yellow alert over a large part of the territory. The provinces of Luxembourg and West Flanders are the only ones not affected by this rain alert.

“A front will be the seat of active undulations on our country; these will give rise to episodes of rain or showers that are sometimes intense, prolonged and possibly stormy,” specifies the IRM on its website.

“This situation will lead to heavy rainfall in several parts of the country and – a priori – a large central strip and part of the west of the country should be the most affected until this morning. Cumulations of more than 20 litres/m² in 6 hours and/or more than 25 litres/m² in 24 hours will be locally possible; very locally, the accumulations over 24 hours might reach up to 40 or 50 litres/m²”.

The alert will end at 9 a.m. on Monday. Even if the IRM specifies that the warning might be extended or concern other provinces in the next day and night.
