The Las Vegas Raiders have given Derek Carr permission to meet with the New Orleans Saints, who recently invited the quarterback to visit, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports.
Carr, whose contract includes a no-trade clause, will reportedly visit the Saints on Wednesday.
The Raiders and Carr are parting ways following a disappointing 2022 season that saw the team only manage a 6-11 record despite some high-profile offseason acquisitions. Carr has been the team’s starting quarterback since 2014.
Last Friday, the Raiders reportedly gave Carr permission to speak with teams who have already agreed to the compensation they are seeking in a possible trade involving the quarterback.
Las Vegas is expected to fire the veteran or find a trading partner for him by February 15. Carr said last week that he has no intention of extending his contract deadline to facilitate a trade.
Should Carr join the Saints, he would reunite with head coach Dennis Allen, who was the Raiders’ sideline boss when they signed the quarterback in the second round in 2014.
The 31-year-old has completed just 60.8% of his passes for 3,522 yards and 24 touchdowns with 14 interceptions this season while going 6-9 as a starter. The Raiders benched him for the last two games of the season and allowed him to leave the team so as not to be a distraction.
The Saints started the 2022 season with Jameis Winston at quarterback but then switched to Andy Dalton following Winston was out with multiple injuries. In 14 starts, Dalton had a 66.7% completion rate, 2,871 yards, 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He becomes a free agent once more this offseason.
New Orleans ended 2022 with a record of 7-10, missing the playoffs for the second straight year.
