Raid of the Ukrainians on the Russian border – Kiev talks about occupying 100 villages in Kursk

The announcement was made by Kiev’s top military commander, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, saying that Ukrainian troops control 1,294 square kilometers of Russian territory. About 594 Russian soldiers were captured, according to him.

Speaking via video link to Ukrainian television, Syrskyi said one of the aims of Ukraine’s invasion of Kursk was to “detach a significant number of enemy troops from other areas”, such as Pokrovsk and Kurakhove in the Donbass, and this was successfully achieved. He added that Russia was aware of this goal and was “concentrating its most combat-ready units in the Pokrovsk region.”

In Kursk is the Kursk nuclear power plant – where the head of the UN nuclear agency is visiting today.

500 Ukrainian soldiers storm two Belgorod outposts

Meanwhile, Russian Telegram channels with links to the security services reported today that Ukrainian forces attacked a border post in the southern Russian region of Belgorod, although there is no official confirmation of fighting there at this time.

Belgorod borders the Kursk region, where Ukrainian troops seized Russian territory after a surprise attack on August 6.

The Mash channel on Telegram reported that approx 500 Ukrainian soldiers attacked two Russian checkpoints in Nehotegevka and Sebekino in the Belgorod region.

Mash reported that up to 200 Ukrainian soldiers in infantry fighting vehicles tried to cross the border at Nekhotegevka and Russian artillery returned fire. He said about 300 Ukrainians attacked another checkpoint in Sebekino.

There is no official confirmation of the information and SHOT, another news channel on Telegram, reported that Ukrainian forces were pushed back from Nekhotegevka after suffering casualties. SHOT reported that there were no clashes in Sebekino.

The governor of the Belgorod region, Vychislav Gladkov, said that the situation on the border with Ukraine is “difficult, but under control”.

“There is information that the enemy is trying to cross the border in the Belgorod region,” Gladkov wrote on the Telegram application.

“Our army is carrying out pre-planned work. Please keep calm and trust only official sources of information.”

Also, Ukraine’s Air Force said it shot down five missiles and 60 drones launched by Russia during a massive airstrike for the second night in a row, killing at least four people.

According to the PA, Russia launched 91 “attack mechanisms”, namely ten missiles of different types and 81 Iranian-made Shahid drones.

“Unfortunately, despite the effective work of our air defense, four people were killed and 16 injured,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Telegram.

“Crimes against humanity cannot be committed with complete impunity,” he added, accusing Moscow of targeting “civilians and infrastructure.”

The four deaths were recorded in the Zaporizhia and Kryvyi Rih regions of southeastern Ukraine.

“Rescue operations are underway at the sites of damage and falling debris in the areas of Ukraine where Russia attacked last night,” said Volodymyr Zelensky.
