Rai, all Tg1 journalists accused of stalking by their colleague acquitted –

The six journalists reported by their Tg1 colleague Dania Mondini for stalking have been acquitted. The Rome preliminary hearing judge today ruled that proceedings should not proceed because the fact does not exist against Giuseppe Carboni, Filippo Gaudenzi, Andrea Montanari, Piero Damosso, Marco Betello and Costanza Crescimbeni, not accepting the request of the Rome public prosecutor’s office which had requested instead the indictment.

THE STORY – The facts date back to 2018 and the proceedings arose from the complaint presented by the journalist who denounced “systematic psychological attacks carried out through a series of oppressive and denigrating behaviors by her superiors in the workplace”. In the request for indictment dated July 2023 by the deputy attorney general, it is stated that a “progressive work of demotion” had been initiated against Mondini with the “transfer to the room of a colleague, a person known to suffer from irrepressible intestinal anomalies”.

THE INVESTIGATION – After a year of investigations in November 2019, the Rome Prosecutor’s Office had requested the dismissal but at the hearing on the opposition in October 2021, the judge made it known that in the meantime the General Prosecutor’s Office had advocated the proceedings. Today the decision of the preliminary hearing judge which acquitted all the suspects considering that the disputed facts do not exist, as supported by the defense of the Rai journalists. Today «is a good day for us, for Tg1 and also for justice. Full dignity is restored to 6 journalists and, together with them, to the entire Tg1 which is not the place where a journalist can be stalked with impunity. None of this happened and today the truth of the facts is finally restored”, commented the former director of Tg1 Andrea Montanari.
