Guwahati: Assam prevented Kerala from winning the Ranji Trophy Group B match. Although they had to give up the follow-on, Assam drew the match with good batting in the second innings.
Score: Kerala – 419/10, Assam – 248/10, 212/3. Kerala took the lead in the first innings and got three points. Nothing for Assam.
Earlier, Kerala ended the first innings of Assam with 248 runs, which was 231 runs for the loss of seven wickets on the last day. Captain Rian Parag’s century took Assam past the score of 200. Parag scored 116 runs off 125 balls including three sixes and 16 fours. Assam was crushed by Boseil Thambi who took five wickets and Jalaj Saxena who took four wickets. After winning the first innings lead of 171 runs, Kerala was following Assam.
But in the second innings, the Assam batsmen broke Kerala’s dream of winning. Opener Rahul Hazarika scored a century. Rahul scored 107 runs from 154 balls. Another opener Rishav Das who scored 45 runs and Gokul Sharma who scored 23 runs remained at the crease and the result was disappointing for Kerala. Sumit Gadigomkar (16*) and Captain Rian Parag (12*) were at the crease at the end of the game.
In Group B, Kerala is fifth with four points from two games and Assam is seventh with one point.
