New Delhi: As the Bharat Jodo Yatra draws to a close, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi hoisted the national flag in Srinagar. The flag was hoisted at the historically important clock tower at Lal Chowk in Srinagar. Congress shared the video of the flag hoisting on Twitter. Along with Rahul, his sister and Congress General Secretary Priyanka also participated in the event.
All roads leading to Lal Chowk were closed on Saturday night for the 10-minute event. All vehicular traffic is prohibited here. Shops, business establishments and weekly markets in the area were closed just for this event. Rahul hoisted the national flag at Lal Chowk amid tight security

The journey started from Pantachowk, Srinagar on Sunday. The journey will end in Srinagar on January 30.
Rahul Gandhi had actually decided to hoist the flag at the Pradesh Congress Committee office on January 30. No permission was given to hoist the flag anywhere else. Authorities gave permission to hoist the flag at Lal Chowk last evening. However, the condition was that the flag should be hoisted on the 29th. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh informed that that is why the flag was hoisted today.
PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti recalled Jawaharlal Nehru hoisting the flag for the first time in the Kashmir Valley in 1948 in the presence of thousands of people.
