Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) — English football star Raheem Sterling left his country’s national team participating in the World Cup in Qatar, following armed intruders stormed his home while his family was inside, according to the UK and Ireland news agency PA Media.

Sterling missed the England national team’s match, in which it beat Senegal, on Sunday evening, with three clean goals, in the World Cup in Qatar, which came following the accident, on Saturday evening, according to PA Media.

PA Media said Sterling was “shaken and frightened” regarding his children’s lives following the home invasion.

And England coach Gareth Southgate said, on Sunday, that Sterling was dealing with a “family matter”, and said: “I spent a lot of time with him this morning, but now I had to leave that matter to other people to help him with that.” Gareth added: “Sterling will go and deal with it, and we’ll see how it goes.”

Watches worth around £300,000 are believed to have been stolen during the operation, a family source told The Sun.
