Computer gamer screams, neighbors call police

Two loud cries in a community in Schleswig-Holstein. A male voice, a female voice. The neighbors are worried and ring the doorbell, but no one answers the door. They call the police and find a young man who cannot control his emotions when he plays.

A 21-year-old man triggered a police and fire brigade operation in the municipality of Süsel in Schleswig-Holstein. Lübeck police said neighbors heard “a high-pitched female scream and a loud male voice”, followed by a “piercing growl” coming from her home on Monday evening. When no one in the building responded to the bell and knocks, residents called the emergency number.

According to police, witnesses also reported seeing lights in the house and a clearly visible human figure. However, when first responders arrived, the building was once once more plunged into darkness. When no one answered the doorbells, knocks on the windows or landline calls from the police, the officers assumed an emergency situation and called the fire department to open the door.

“Emotions from time to time” came through

Shortly before firefighters gained access to the building, authorities said, the homeowner showed up and let emergency responders in with a key. During the subsequent search, the cause of the commotion was found: the owner’s 21-year-old son was playing a computer game in a dark room with headphones on his head.

According to his own statements, he was unaware that neighbors and the police had tried to contact him. According to officials, the startled man also said that “he turned the sound on during the video game and his own emotions escaped him from time to time.” The operation ended “with great relief”.
