“They are cowards. They impose silence and fear with violence. My pursuers are criminals”, he denounced.
The former boss of Petróleos de Venezuela, Rafael Ramírez, rejected on Monday the decision of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) that endorsed the extradition request to Italy to be tried for the alleged crimes of “own fraudulent embezzlement, evasion of the bidding procedure or false allegation, money laundering and association”.
“The government continues to use the ‘judicial power’ for political persecution once morest me and my family. It is not enough for them to kidnap my brother, now they are going once morest my wife,” Ramírez said in a Twitter message.
In addition to Ramírez, the TSJ also requests the extradition of his wife, Beatrice Daniela Sansó de Ramírez, and his brother-in-law, Baldo Antonio Sansó Rondón.
“They are cowards. They impose silence and fear with violence. My pursuers are criminals”, he denounced.
The extradition request, endorsed by the Criminal Cassation Chamber with a presentation by Judge Elsa Janeth Gómez Moreno, was requested by Farik Karin Mora Salcedo, sixty-seventh national prosecutor of the Public Ministry.
Already in January 2022, the Italian Supreme Court rejected a previous request for extradition, considering that Ramírez had “the need for international protection for the violation of human rights in Venezuela.”
