RAFAEL Nadal hopes to recover from injury so he can appear at the Barcelona Open, which will be held next week. This was said by the 22-time Grand Slam champion, Wednesday (10/4).
“Firstly, I am still training in the hope of recovering before the tournament starts. I am very eager to play,” Nadal said on social media alongside a photo of himself sitting on the side of the court holding a racket.
However, he later added, “Even so, I have to say I can’t confirm I will play. I hope I can play.”
Last Thursday (4/4), the 37-year-old Spaniard was forced to cancel his appearance at the Monte Carlo Masters following failing to recover from injury.
The winner of 14 French Open titles has missed most of 2023 due to injury and only played at the Brisbane International this year when his hip injury recurred in his quarter-final match once morest Jordan Thompson.
The injury meant Nadal missed the Australian Open, Doha and Indian Wells Masters.
With this year possibly being his last year as a professional tennis player, Nadal will be pushing hard in the clay court season in the hope of winning the French Open for the 15th time.
The Barcelona Open will be held from April 15 to 21. (AFP/Z-1)
