Rafael Nadal is back.
Nadal, who pulled out of the 2023 French Open and missed the remainder of the season due to a left hip injury that required surgery, has announced his ATP Tour return for the 2024 season in a hype video posted to his account on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion said he will return to play at the Brisbane International tournament in Australia the first week of January.
The video shows Nadal, 37, suffering the injury, which kept him out of the final three grand slams in the calendar year, during the Australian Open last January. Then, snippets are mixed in from a press conference where the Spaniard said he didn’t think he “deserves to end like this.”

With this introduction and some inspiring music as the backdrop, Nadal revealed the news his fans were waiting for, indicating he’ll be back on the court for a hard-court tune-up at Brisbane. Presumably, the Manacor native would then be in Melbourne for the first grand slam of the year, the Australian Open.
Back in May, Nadal stated that 2024 will be his final year on the ATP Tour. His penultimate chapter will begin in Brisbane.
