SPÖ state party secretary Barbara Novak expected up to 120,000 visitors in front of the main stage in the run-up to the performance on Friday evening. A separate security concept with three sectors in front of the stage had been developed with the police in order to prevent excessive crowding.

In fact, the rush of fans was enormous: around 10:30 p.m., one hour after the start of the concert, the organizers and the Vienna police had to call on social media to stop coming to the festival grounds.

The performance itself was also an expected spectacle: Countless mobile phones shot up at the beginning of the one and a half hour concert. The space in front of the festival stage curated by FM4 on Friday was filled to the very back. Some of the on average quite young spectators got a better view on various wagons and toilet blocks.

The crowd was not only rewarded for coming with a break in the rain, RAF Camora also performed numerous songs from his album “XV”, which was released today.

For the song “Wien” he brought Yung Hurn, who was very familiar to the audience, onto the stage to shoot a video. “Makes us proud,” he said, urging the audience to twirl whatever can be twirled. Said and done. Even with the often-uttered request “All hands up”, the crowd did not slouch.

The rapper from Vienna-Fünfhaus didn’t just heat up the audience with his mix of dancehall, hip-hop and pop. Two flamethrowers and Bengals were also used, while the light show fired from all tubes and the bass boomed properly from the loudspeakers.

RAF Camora performed at the Donauinselfest about 20 years ago. Back then, however, there were fewer people in front of the stage than on it, he recalled. The fact that he is now performing on the festival stage is the “greatest satisfaction of my life”, according to the musician.
