[풋볼리스트] Reporter Kim Jeong-yong = The battle to recruit Radu Dragusin, which was thought to be a quick decision, is still fierce.

‘Sky Sports Italia’ reported that Tottenham wasted time without sending an official recruitment request even following being close to signing Dragusin, and in the meantime, the possibility of him going to Naples increased.

Dragusin, a 22-year-old Romanian prospect, has recently attracted attention through his outstanding performance. Dragusin, who was a promising prospect for Juventus but had not established himself properly, moved to the new home by helping Genoa achieve promotion in the 2022-2023 season, and is playing a part in Genoa’s success this season. With his height of 191 cm, he recorded 2 goals and 1 assist in the first half of the season, and his quick feet and active defensive tendencies are noticeable compared to his height. The transfer fee is expected to be around 30 million euros (regarding 43.2 billion won).

If Genoa had been the only team that had to negotiate to recruit Dragusin, the destination might have been decided early, but the current ownership situation is a bit complicated. Juventus has the right to take 20% of the future transfer fee. From Genoa’s perspective, they can reduce the amount they give to Juventus by making a deal that includes players rather than simply earning transfer fees. The calculation is complicated.

The transfer fee that Tottenham verbally agreed upon with Genoa is 25 million euros (regarding 36 billion won) plus a bonus. However, perhaps due to Tottenham’s chronic tendency to ‘draw for a long time’, no official proposal has been made.

Napoli, which also needs to reinforce center backs, proposed adding center back Leo Ostigor for 20 million euros (regarding 28.8 billion won) and also loaning promising right back Alessandro Chanoli. Östigor had played as a starter for Genoa before coming to Naples, so it might have been a pretty attractive deal. However, Genoa rejected this offer. It has been reported that Genoa prefers to fully recruit Chanoli and loan Östigor.

Tottenham urgently needs to recruit a starting center back. There is no problem with the skills of the starting duo, Mickey van der Pen and Christian Romero. However, third-choice center back Eric Dier’s speed and defensive range are too lacking to handle coach Enzi Postecoglou’s aggressive tactics. In the first half of the season, when many of the starting two players were missing due to injuries or suspensions, players whose main job was fullback were moved to the center and were reluctant to use Dier. This is the number one position that needs to be strengthened in the winter transfer market.

Napoli also needs to strengthen its defense. After Kim Min-jae, who led the championship by being selected as the best defender in Serie A in the 2022-2023 season, left, he was unable to fill the position. Brazilian prospect Natang, who was recruited to replace Kim Min-jae, has had a lot of ups and downs in his performance. He needs to bolster that position with a proven defender in Serie A.
