The current mayor of Chillán Viejo, Jorge Del Pozo, faces complex moments, against whom a second complaint for alleged sexual abuse was filed a few days ago.
Barely two months before the mayoral primaries, and seven months before the elections, the ruling party’s main card to retain the municipality will have to face two different judicial processes, which will surely influence its political destiny.
Despite this, the Radical Party supported his candidacy for re-election.
“As a Radical Party we support and support Mayor Jorge del Pozo on the path to his re-election. We do so with the firm conviction that he has carried out a successful, clean and transparent management, so today no one can argue that Chillán Viejo is a better place to live, but also, because we trust absolutely and completely in his innocence regarding the accusations unfounded accusations that have been raised against him,” said the regional president of radicalism, César Calderón.
“We have held intense meetings with him, and he has pointed out to us the same thing that he said at the press conference on Wednesday, so we join the voices that ask for a quick and meticulous investigation that will allow us to put an end to this episode, which we believe, only “It seeks to harm the mayor in the lowest and most reprehensible way that can be used for this purpose,” he added.

– From a legal point of view, could Jorge Del Pozo be unable to compete?
– No, there is no impossibility for him to compete, but beyond what is legal, we trust in his absolute and complete innocence, and that is why we will support him until the end. It would be different, as in other communes, if it were formalized for economic matters or tax fraud with specific antecedents. Here there are two complaints, accusations, meaningless and without precedents. It is easy to shoot at the crowd and harm someone without measuring the damage, not only personal, but particularly family. It has been a very painful episode for him.
– What have you discussed with the other Democratic Socialist parties about this?
– Logic indicates that we will receive the support of the conglomerate, that is what we think, it corresponds, well I insist, here there are accusations that we trust are false, humiliating and unsustainable. We trust that. An impeccable management such as that of the mayor of Chillán Viejo cannot be restricted by a decision that could be made on the basis of things without support. The mayor has expressed to us all his complete innocence and we believe him. We trust that justice will do its job.
– The mayor spoke of a “political machination” to lower it. Do you support How do I match this thesis?
– At least we suspect that. Both complaints are signed by an opposition lawyer, whose activism is known. If one reads the documents, which is what one has to do to realize this, one observes meaningless facts, there is no concrete background and the dates do not add up. Things are talked about with the purpose of causing harm. Here a person has been brought to public scrutiny and to his own ignominy in order to generate an electoral dividend. We urge them to compete with the rules that democracy provides, not to be afraid of that.
