Complex position. This is not so important”. With these words, MEP Radan Kanev from “Democratic Bulgaria” defined the ultimatum to Boyko Borisov, that if GERB does not get the position of foreign minister, there will be early parliamentary elections along with those for MEPs.

“It would be a great tragedy, a clash that has no direct impact on the future of Bulgarian citizens, the economy and national security, to be the reason for an infinitely difficult management configuration not to last,” Kanev added.

According to him, Bulgaria is the only or one of the few countries in the EU in which the post of foreign minister and minister for European affairs are combined. Kanev explained that most countries have a minister of European affairs, who is much more important than the foreign minister.

“In Bulgarian politics, European membership is spoken like this: we get some money and some laws, which almost unfortunately we have to comply with, in addition we also get a pat on the shoulder, which is a terrible pride. In fact, the EU is a place where you go and fight for your interest, you are there among equals. Bulgaria is more represented than Germany and this is not by chance. Germany with 80 million people has 96 MPs and Bulgaria with 6 million people – 17 MPs. Almost twice as good we are represented per capita in the EP,” added Radan Kanev.

Earlier today, also in front of BTV, the deputy chairman of GERB Tomislav Donchev announced that the ultimatum came from “We continue the change”. “Yesterday at the Executive Committee, Mr. Borisov informed us regarding the progress of the negotiations and quoted Mr. Petkov, who said more than once: “If Denkov is not foreign minister, we will go to elections,” he explained.
