The Pavé stage of the Tour de France from Lille to Arenberg results in numerous crashes. Not entirely unexpected, as the cobblestones are unfamiliar terrain for several cycling pros. One thing is certain: they bring no luck to the Austrian Michael Gogl (25). He started twice at Paris-Roubaix (2016 and 2021), twice he didn’t reach the finish line. And on the tour, too, it hits him hard on the same roads.

As a spectator video shows, the Italian Daniel Oss (light jersey) hooked into a spectator at the edge of the track before he slammed into another fan who was filming or taking photos with his cell phone. The Dutchman Danny van Poppel flies over him before Gogl (blue jersey) slams into the bikes in front of him – he has to go to the hospital, the tour is over.
