Rachel Alkalay, Israeli entrepreneur and founder of a life sciences start-up called “Novel Concepts Medical”, has been selected as a “pioneering inventor” by the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (ficpi.org).

His startup notably won the Global Health & Pharma award from the prestigious medical magazine, as a vital research and development company for 2023 in the Middle East, as well as the Biotechnologies Awards 2024.

“Novel Concepts Medical” is a medical research and development company founded in 2020 by Rachel Alkalay, PhD, which aims to study the role that natural compounds can play as revolutionary solutions for Covid-19 and to other pathologies, such as Alzheimer’s, cancer, obesity, diabetes or even anemia.

“An old notebook of my father, an agronomist with a master’s degree at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, inspired me to start scientific research on plants as a potential cure for the coronavirus,” said Dr. Alkalay who before to found the startup, worked in Israel, New York and London.

Rachel explains that “regarding a third of the world’s medicines are made from plants. Plants are a very interesting target for researchers looking for new drugs and new ways to treat patients.”

Dr. Alkalay began working in 2020 on an antiviral formula. His invention was tested in several laboratories and proved that it might block the entry of the coronavirus into human cells.

She worked with some world-renowned laboratories on her inventions in Israel and at the Center for Infectious Diseases at Canadian McMaster University in Canada.

Rachel Alkalay also looked into Alzheimer’s disease following preliminary case studies with covid patients who lost short-term memory due to long-term covid.

“We have developed a new formula that has the potential to prevent and cure Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, improving speech, communication, mobility, mental state, mood, expression of emotions , object identification, sleep and vitality,” she explains.

“This scientific breakthrough brings a lot of hope and is very good news for people suffering from long-term memory loss, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Since it is a formula based on plants, working with safe and legal plants, we hope to be able to market this product in the near future, initially as a dietary supplement,” she continues.

The company is working on other diseases linked to metabolic syndrome, including cancer and diabetes. Regarding diabetes, the product was successfully tested on volunteers in whom a significant reduction in glucose levels and weight was observed.
