Sony WH-1000XM5 adopts dual-chip design, integrates V1 processor and QN1 processor, and cooperates with 4 earphones on each side, a total of 8 microphones, to achieve stronger noise reduction effect. Sony says that the earphones have a better noise reduction effect on high-frequency noises that were difficult to deal with in the past, including human voices. The headset has a built-in ANC auto-lift function, which can automatically detect the user’s hairstyle, whether to wear glasses, and whether the headset is installed crookedly on the noise reduction effect, so as to adjust the most suitable noise reduction performance. The air pressure sensor is also installed in the fuselage, and the noise reduction effect can be adjusted according to the current air pressure when taking the plane.
The current-generation microphone is installed in a headphone case with a windproof structure. The slightly recessed design makes the windproof effect better, avoiding the influence of wind noise and making noise when listening to music.
The 30mm driver unit on the WH-1000XM5 this time uses a softer edge in design, which not only improves the bass effect, but also improves the noise isolation performance. Lightweight, high-rigidity carbon fiber material is also used on the belly of the unit to make high-frequency performance more natural.
In terms of materials, the headphone motherboard, the joints of various parts, and the contacts of the headphone output are all made of gold-containing fusion materials to provide a better sense of music positioning. The earphones have a 3.5mm jack and can be wired to a smartphone, computer or in-flight music system using the included headphone cable. At the same time, Sony has improved the voice interface heard when switching the headset and switching the ambient sound function on and off, changing from the previous female voice “Power on” to a “beep” sound effect to reduce the time that hinders users from using the headset.
The WH-1000XM5 case is designed with recycled materials, and the packaging of this headset will follow the WF-1000XM4 wireless headset. The whole box is made of recycled materials, and the design is simpler.
In terms of price, the WH-1000XM5 retails at HK$3,190 in Hong Kong. It will be available for pre-order on May 13 and will be officially launched in early June.
