On Sunday evening, the aspiring surgeon answered the tricky questions of Angélique Beldner (47). Or rather, the tricky question. Because: Nils failed on the first question.
Quiz master Beldner wanted to know from the Zurich resident: “If something corresponds to his taste, then in colloquial terms it is exactly his…?”
The possible answers were: collar size, shoe size or belt length.
“I didn’t hope that I would be so unsure when I asked the first question,” said candidate Nils. Nevertheless, he doesn’t hesitate for a moment and decides on answer B – shoe size.
Nils guessed wrong. His quiz adventure is over before it even really begins. “It’s a shame, it was nice,” he laughs.
After all, 16 of his 100 opponents didn’t know the answer either.
Moderator Angélique Beldner is visibly suffering. «So no, Nils. What do we do now? “I’m really, really sorry,” she moans. “We can’t let you compete once more. But we give you the biggest applause our audience has ever experienced.”
The candidate leaves the quiz island to thunderous applause and a standing ovation.
The audience also suffers with Nils. On social media, they are particularly bothered by Angélique Beldner’s lack of help. A user writes on The applause show was so embarrassingly staged. No tact at all!”
Another complains: “Is it supposed to seem empathetic or what, Ms. Beldner? Why do you celebrate Nils’ departure so gleefully and make everyone stand up? What has he done to you that you don’t give him any advice when asked? Awkward!”
At Nau.ch’s request, Beldner comments. It is “rare” that someone is thrown out at the first question, but “of course possible”. The moderator makes it clear: “Basically, I’m always rooting for everyone up on the quiz island, but of course I’m not allowed to help.”
