Quito remains on an epidemiological orange alert. What does it mean and what are the capacity?

The Municipality of Quito informed the public that the city is at the orange epidemiological alert level, in the face of the coronavirus situation.

Therefore, the Mayor’s Office urged citizens to complete their vaccination schedule in different parts of the capital.

Likewise, it was urged that biosafety standards, social distancing and the use of masks be respected.

“Although hospitals have reported an increase in the occupancy of both hospital beds and ICUs, the city has the necessary availability to provide the care that is required”, says a communiqué from the Municipality.

In accordance with Resolution No. 040, Art. 17, on the determination of alert thresholds, the corresponding restriction and biosafety measures will be taken:

  • Enabling LUAE’s with restricted capacity (30%) and compliance with the biosafety protocol issued by the Ministry of Health: Bars and discos, tolerance and nightlife centers, training centers and gyms that carry out contact activities
  • Shopping centers (including food courts: 65% capacity.
  • Super markets and markets: 65% capacity.
  • Banking and corporate agencies: 60% capacity.
  • Restaurants: 60% capacity indoors and 70% outdoors. * Restaurants must also observe capacity due to distance in the following way: – Inside: 2 meters between tables – Outside: 1.50 meters between tables.
  • Cinemas and theaters: 50% capacity.
  • Gyms with the exception of gyms and training centers for the practice of sports and / or contact activities such as martial arts, wrestling, boxing, and the like: 65% capacity.
  • Auditoriums, convention centers, tourist accommodation (in spaces where events are held) and reception and banquet rooms when holding corporate and academic events -MICE: 70% of capacity indoors and 80% of capacity outdoors.
  • Auditoriums, convention centers, tourist accommodation (in spaces where events are held) and reception and banquet rooms when social events are held: 60% indoor capacity and 70% outdoor capacity.
  • Public shows with restricted capacity (excluding fairs and MICE events): 30% capacity.
  • It was established that, within municipal spas, there is a maximum capacity of 50% and a schedule for use of their facilities, from 06:00 to 18:00.
  • Regarding the capacity in public transport, it was resolved to reduce it to 75%. This measure will be reviewed during the first week of January, according to the epidemiological indicators and their evolution.

Persons who fail to observe any of the provisions set forth in articles 19 and 20 of this resolution will be sanctioned as established in articles 1808, 3879 and 3880 of the Municipal Code for the Metropolitan District of Quito.
