Rangers Rally for Win in Zibanejad’s Milestone Game
The New York Rangers pulled off a thrilling comeback victory, snapping a three-game losing streak in notable fashion. Mika Zibanejad, playing his 900th NHL game, spearheaded the charge with a goal and two assists in the third period, leading the Rangers to a 4-2 win over the struggling Vegas Golden Knights.
The Golden Knights, themselves on a three-game skid, looked poised for victory after a strong first two periods. Jack Eichel’s two goals had them in control, but a late surge by the Rangers turned the tide. Zibanejad’s magic began to unfold when he tied the game 2-2 on a power play, capitalizing on a rebound off a shot from J.T. Miller. This marked a turning point in the game, injecting energy into the Rangers and leaving the Golden Knights on their heels.
“To get a guy like J.T., it’s exciting,” Zibanejad exclaimed. “Just the talent level he has and what he brings to the table, and obviously a lot of experience too. So, it’s been fun.”
K’Andre Miller gave the Rangers their first lead at 3-2 with a powerful one-timer, assisted by Zibanejad. Artemi Panarin sealed the deal with a wrist shot from a sharp angle on another power play, extending the lead to 4-2 with mere minutes remaining.
Coach Bruce Cassidy of the Golden Knights, tho disappointed with the loss, acknowledged the need for improvement in finishing opportunities. “why it got away from us is we didn’t finish well enough to extend the lead in the second,” Cassidy said. “Even the chances in the third, we where off-net too often with our chances. That’s happening a lot lately for us. …We’ve got to finish better.”
For the Rangers, the victory came as a much-needed boost, showing resilience and the ability to overcome adversity. Peter Laviolette, the Rangers coach, attributed the win to the team’s perseverance and improvement throughout the game. “I thought we got better as the game went on,” Laviolette said. “A little slow in the first. Better in the second. Our best was in the third.”
