Linz – It was to be expected, but it would have been wiser if the responsible Green Vice-Chancellor Kogler had waited to reclaim the money from the NPO fund until the question of whether the Seniors’ Association is a sub-organization of the ÖVP or an independent association has been legally clarified. Even the party transparency senate found that the fundamental legal question of the scope of the term “political party” had not yet been clearly answered and that is exactly why the Federal Administrative Court must now answer this question – whether the calls of the self-appointed judges are necessary? Because for SPÖ country manager Koppler, the wrong has already been proven and an apology is necessary.
The role of the green ministries also raises questions. Because that’s when the Green Minister of Social Affairs first explains that the senior citizens’ organizations should apply to NPO funds. The vice chancellor’s office, which reports to his party colleague, examines and approves the applications, only to then demand the money back months later with media attention. Whether such an approach can strengthen trust in the state? But one thing is already clear: one cannot and should not draw a line just yet.
