London, Feb 20 (EFE) .- Queen Elizabeth II, 95, has been infected with covid-19, Buckingham Palace announced this Sunday.

In a statement, the British Royal House said that the monarch has “mild symptoms similar to a cold”, but plans to continue performing “light tasks” this week.

The news comes ten days following it was announced that her son Carlos, the crown prince, had tested positive for covid-19 following having been with the queen.

The queen “will continue to receive medical care and follow all appropriate guidelines,” the royal statement added.

Isabel II resumed her official activities five days ago -following having been in contact with Carlos- with a virtual audience in which the Spanish ambassador to the United Kingdom, José Pascual Marco, presented his credentials to the monarch.

The ambassador went to Buckingham Palace, where he held the audience at a distance with the sovereign, who remains at his residence in Windsor Castle (regarding 40 kilometers west of London), where he has spent much of the coronavirus pandemic.

Elizabeth II celebrated the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne two weeks ago following the death of her father, George VI, although the official Platinum Jubilee celebrations will take place in June.

According to the British media, the monarch has received three doses of the covid vaccine, although this has not been confirmed by Buckingham Palace.

Isabel II spent time with her son Carlos on February 8, shortly before he tested positive for covid, according to the BBC.

The wife of the crown prince and future queen consort, Camila, also tested positive for coronavirus on February 14.
