Queen Elizabeth II has bestowed strength and confidence on the people of the Commonwealth of Nations. “In these trying times, I hope you can draw strength and inspiration from what binds us together as we work together towards a healthy, sustainable and prosperous future for all,” the 95-year-old monarch wrote in a Commonwealth Day message
Monarch was absent from the service
The Queen canceled her participation in the event with around 1,500 guests on Friday without giving any reasons – as she had done several public appointments in the past few months. The Queen’s 70th jubilee also played an important role in the service this year, Elizabeth had ascended the throne in 1952.

In her message, the monarch once once more referred to her promise to serve her people as queen until the end of her life. “In this year of my platinum anniversary, I have had the pleasure of renewing my promise made in 1947 that my life will forever be devoted to service,” she wrote. The then princess had said in a speech: “I declare that my whole life, be it short or long, should be dedicated to service.”
