Queen Elizabeth II: Prince Charles read the traditional “Queen’s Speech”

At the opening of Parliament, the monarch was from her son and heir to the throne Prinz Charles (73) have been represented. At 11.14 a.m. UK time, Prince Charles got out of the state limousine and made his way to the “Robing Room” in Parliament and finally to the chamber of the “House of Lords”. There the heir to the throne then read the traditional “Queen’s Speech” (in German: “Queen’s Speech”).

The Queen’s absence and Charles’ taking on the role are indeed part of history. Because it is only the third time in 70 years of regency that the now 96-year-old regent has waived this appointment.

In 1959 and 1963, the Queen attended the State Opening of Parliament due to her pregnancy Prinz Andrew (62) and Prinz Edward (58) deleted from her calendar.
