The president of BMO Financial Group, Grégoire Baillargeon, is full of hope for Quebec and believes that companies here have the chance to become world leaders in energy transition.

“We must not miss our chances, the transformation is happening now, not in 20 years,” he says.

He also used the popular expression of the head coach of the Montreal Canadiens, Martin St-Louis, mentioning that it is time to “bring our game, into the game” to try to illustrate the Quebec’s opportunity to make its place internationally.

“The game is the international game. There is a global transformation underway. Things are moving forward. Some say that things are moving too slowly, but they are moving forward and it will accelerate (…) Quebec is incredibly lucky because our electricity is already green,” he explains.

However, this advantage will not last long since all countries are changing the way they produce energy.

In addition, Quebec has other advantages such as already know-how in this area and a strategic geographical position.

“We have an opportunity to propel ourselves into the world of tomorrow. Quebec not only has green energy, but we are connected to both oceans, we have the railway, the St. Lawrence River, etc. (…) I think we can be the best. We leave with incredible advantages,” he explains.

However, massive investments by governments to attract large companies to come and set up operations should not harm local businesses.

On the other hand, they believe that there are opportunities for everyone to become exemplary companies.
