One of Quebec’s most wanted criminals has been apprehended by authorities more than four years following escaping from prison.
Denis Bégin was arrested last Monday by the Montreal Police Service, Correctional Service Canada said in a statement released Thursday evening.
“The detainee had been unlawfully at large from the minimum security unit of the Federal Training Center since February 15, 2019,” it said.
Sentenced to life imprisonment, Denis Bégin was on the list of the most wanted criminals in the province.
According to the Criminal Information Center of the Sûreté du Québec, he was wanted for “escape from penitentiary following a sentence for murder”.
New criminal charges might be brought once morest Bégin for his escape from prison.
Nicknamed “the Halloween killer,” he shot 19-year-old Riccardo Jezzi in a Montreal bar dressed as Jason from the Friday the 13th film series.
