“Quebecers who have a family doctor will keep him. We want to reassure the population,” the minister wrote on the social network
Last week, Radio-Canada reported that Quebec was studying the possibility of modifying the allocation of family doctors.
Vulnerable patients would have been prioritized to have a family doctor, while healthy Quebecers or those with minor problems would have been directed to a modified first line access window (GAP).
“As we committed to in the Health Plan, our objectives are very clear: we are taking all means to facilitate access and simplify the organization of the first line, for all Quebecers,” continues Ms. . Dubé in his message.
The possibility of modifying the allocation of family doctors had aroused the ire of opposition parties in Quebec, especially since the minister had not immediately closed the door. Last week, Christian Dubé wrote, again on X, that it was “much too early to advance on any scenario proposed by experts”.
The Parti Québécois was quick to react. “After having unanimously opposed him, the Minister of Health closes the door to the scenario that he seemed to endorse last week. Another trial balloon that comes up short,” wrote PQ MP Joël Arseneau.
In 2022-2023, approximately 2.1 million Quebecers did not have a family doctor.
