A major outage has hit many Videotron subscribers since Friday morning in Quebec. This might possibly have been caused by vandalism.
The fiber optic break led to an interruption of telecommunications services for certain customers in the Beauport, Charlesbourg, Courville, Lebourgneuf, Limoilou, Montmorency and Saint-Laurent-de-l’Île-d’Orléans sectors.
“Our team on the ground was able to observe that fiber optic cables had been severed and the circumstances lead us to believe that it was an act of vandalism”, confirmed in writing a spokesperson.

A report has also been made to the Quebec City Police Department, according to spokesperson Marie-Pier Rivard.
“In the morning, we were told of a possible wrongdoing in connection with the breakdown, so we will go to analyze the facts”, she specifies.

Videotron teams mobilized on the ground to restore service as quickly as possible.
On its website, the company indicated that services should be back gradually and completely restored for all customers by the start of the evening.
According to the most recent data obtained, nearly 70% of affected customers have now regained their services.
