Quebec reports 19 new deaths attributed to COVID-19

Deaths linked to COVID-19 continue to pile up, with authorities reporting 19 new victims on Wednesday.

Since the beginning of the week, nearly forty deaths have been added to the balance sheet, which is now approaching the 18,000 mark since the start of the pandemic.

Of the 19 deaths announced Wednesday, four occurred in the past 24 hours and eight two to seven days ago. The remaining seven deaths occurred more than seven days ago.

By Tuesday, authorities had reported 20 new deaths. Since the start of the pandemic, 17,904 Quebecers with COVID-19 have lost their lives.

However, hospitalizations continue to decline, as they did last week. According to the latest report, 1,688 patients were hospitalized with COVID-19, including 533 due to the disease, which represents a decrease of 23.

There is also a slight drop in intensive care, where three fewer people are treated in this unit, for a total of 34. Among them, 19 are treated specifically for COVID-19.

The number of cases officially recorded by the authorities remains relatively low, at 523. However, this data must be taken with a grain of salt, since screening centers are restricted to certain priority groups.

Quebecers reported on Tuesday 45 rapid tests on the platform of the Ministry of Health, including 36 which turned out to be positive.

On the vaccination side, 2959 doses were administered on Tuesday. According to the government dashboard, only 29% of Quebecers have received a dose of vaccine for less than five months.
