“Quebec Remparts Dominate QMJHL Final with 5-1 Victory: Game 1 Recap”

2023-05-13 00:28:47

The Quebec Remparts had many motivations to attack the QMJHL final on Friday night and Patrick Roy’s squad demonstrated it with a convincing 5-1 victory against the Halifax Mooseheads. Game 1 of the final was played in front of a full house of 18,259 fans at the Videotron Centre.

Thus, the Remparts signed a 21st victory in a row – taking into account the last regular season games – to take control 1-0 in the 2023 final in their quest for the Gilles-Courteau trophy. Quebec remains undefeated in 13 playoff games so far.

Patrick Roy’s men started the game with panache and took a three-goal lead early in the second period, which the Mooseheads were unable to close.

Justin Robidas scored twice in the win, with the other goals coming from Théo Rochette, Zachary Bolduc and Pier-Olivier Roy. In the Halifax camp, Markus Vidicek was the only scorer.

The Remparts wasted no time in making their fans happy. After a little over five minutes of play, Justin Robidas took advantage of a turnover from the Mooseheads to attack and score with a good wrist shot to open the scoring. His eighth goal of the playoffs also put an end to the 13 minutes and 11 seconds streak without allowing a goal of Mathis Rousseau, the Halifax goaltender.

Quebec returned to work later in the first period, with less than five minutes to play. Théo Rochette jumped on a bouncing puck at the mouth of the net and he pushed the disc into the back of the net to double the Remparts’ lead thanks to his third goal of the playoffs.

The Remparts started the median period on the power play, which is very bad news for Halifax. Zachary Bolduc made Zachary L’Heureux’s indiscipline pay dearly and he took advantage of the presence of Rochette in front of the net to take a wrist shot that made its way to the back of the cage, increasing the lead Quebec at 3-0.

Halifax finally answered midway through the second period. Also benefiting from a power play, Mooseheads forward Markus Vidicek completed a superb throw-in from Alexandre Doucet at the mouth of the net to reduce the gap to two goals.

But the Remparts wasted no time in regaining a three-goal lead. As in the third goal of the game, Quebec placed traffic in front of the net to obscure Rousseau’s view and this time it was Robidas who took the opportunity to take a wrist shot and score his second goal of the playoffs.

Without mercy, Quebec added with less than 90 seconds to play in the second period. Rochette made a superb entry into the zone punctuated by a nice fake, before handing over to Pier-Olivier Roy on his left, who increased Quebec’s lead to four goals after 40 minutes of play.
