The Quebec government announced on Wednesday followingnoon a total investment of $440 million to rehabilitate the railway line between Vallée-Jonction and Thetford-Mines by the end of fall 2025.

The rehabilitation of the Québec Central railway will be carried out over a distance of 58 kilometers and will notably include the reconstruction of 17 railway bridges, the replacement of 102 culverts and the repair of 40 public level crossings.
It should be noted that the Government of Quebec announced an amount of $106 million last March, in order to launch public calls for tenders for the purchase of rails and the carrying out of preparatory work this summer, including the reconstruction of the railway bridge at above the Chaudière River at Vallée-Jonction.
According to a preliminary analysis, the completion of this project will permanently add $50 million to Quebec’s real gross domestic product (GDP). The construction work will also generate economic spinoffs of approximately $250 million on Quebec’s GDP and provide 1,100 full-time jobs.
