Quebecers may still be startled on November 15 since the Ministry of Public Security (MSP) announced a new Québec En Alerte test to remind the population of the usefulness of this tool and make them aware of the sound.
The test will also allow people to validate the compatibility of their mobile device in anticipation of a real emergency situation, the MSP recalled Friday in a press release.
“Québec En Alerte aims to quickly inform the population to help them better protect themselves when an event occurs that presents a real or imminent threat to their life or security,” declared the MSP.
Among the targeted risks, we find explosion or contamination by dangerous materials, natural and climatic disasters or even armed threats.
The message broadcast indicates the behaviors to adopt to reduce the probable consequences of the event, in French and English.
The system also allows the broadcast of AMBER alerts, which provide information on missing children.
To receive the alert, the cell phone must be compatible and connected to an LTE network at the time the alert is issued.
