Quebec disco singer Martin Stevens has died

Quebec disco star Martin Stevens, performer of global success Love is in the Air, died Wednesday at the age of 69.

Born Roger Prud’homme on October 3, 1953 in Verdun, on the island of Montreal, he enjoyed enormous success in the late 1970s. In addition to Love is in the Airhis most famous song, his repertoire includes the pieces Mignight Music et I love music (like crazy)which also rose to the top of the charts.

Thanks to Love is in the Air, cover of the Australian John Paul Young, Martin Stevens was nominated for the prize for male performer of the year at the Gala de l’ADISQ, in 1979, as well as for that of the disco album of the year . The artist also obtained nominations at the Juno Awards, in English Canada, for best sales for a single.

Martin Stevens had published his autobiography, titled Sex, drugs and discoin 2007, at Éditions La Semaine.

In this book, we recall that he “became a superstar” thanks to Love is in the Airand that he always believed that disco would come back with a vengeance eventually.
