The government of Quebec has unveiled the list of 11 companies whose projects have obtained the green light for a high-power electricity connection, i.e. 5 megawatts (MW) and more, for a total of nearly a thousand megawatts, 956 MW for be precise. He made the announcement in a press release on Friday evening.
Of this number, five of the selected projects will be used to power the battery sector and two that of bioenergy.
The TES Canada company project announced Friday for the construction of a green hydrogen production plant in Shawinigan is also on this list.
Hydro-Québec will also supply 5 megawatts (MW) and more of the future Northvolt plant in North America, at its facilities in Saint-Basile-le-Grand and McMasterville, in Montérégie.
The other industrial projects selected are those of Air Liquide Canada, Ford-Ecopro CAM Canada SEC and Nouveau monde Graphite, in Bécancour, for the battery sector, as well as Volta Energy Solutions Canada, in Granby.
The bioenergy projects concern those of Greenfield Global Québec, in Varennes, in Montérégie, and WM Québec, in Sainte-Sophie, in the Laurentians.
There is also the Duravit Canada manufacturing project, in Matane, in Bas-Saint-Laurent, that of Minerai de Fer Québec, in Fermont, on the North Shore, for green steel, and Vantage Data Centers CanadaQC4 , Limited Partnership, in Pointe-Claire, in the West Island of Montreal, for a data center.
All the projects selected were selected last August, “according to defined analysis criteria, such as the technical connection capacities and the impact on the Quebec electricity network, the impact on the economy and regional development, the environmental and social impact as well as consistency with government orientations,” specifies the press release from the office of the Minister of the Economy, Innovation and Energy and Minister responsible for Regional Economic Development, Pierre Fitzgibbon.
“With the tightening of energy balances and the increasing electrification of our economy, we must choose the most promising projects and allocate the available electricity judiciously,” recalled Minister Fitzgibbon.
“These eleven projects will accelerate the energy transition, while creating significant economic benefits throughout Quebec,” he stressed.
The government is continuing to analyze other energy-intensive industrial projects making it possible to make a transition to a greener economy, until March 31.
