Quebec Attorney General Seeks Confiscation of House Allegedly Tied to Illegal Activities

The Attorney General of Quebec wants to confiscate a house in Warwick that was allegedly paid for with the illegal activities of a man with a long criminal record.

In the introductory application for civil forfeiture filed at the Victoriaville courthouse on May 2, it can be read that the residence on rue Richardson, in Warwick, was purchased by the mother of Jonathan Crête, but she was not there. never lived.

“This one having always been inhabited by Crête [qui] maintains it and makes payments (taxes and mortgage),” the court document alleges.

“In doing so, Crête frequently participates in illegal activities that are likely to provide it with an economic advantage. Consequently, the immovable is presumed to be the product of illegal activities”, we continue in the introductory application.

Cocaine and Viagra

From May 25 to October 18, 2022, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) carried out surveillance on Crête.

“During these surveillances, the police observed 19 exchanges during very short meetings resembling drug transactions between Crête and other individuals”.

Also, from February 2013 to May 2020, the SQ received information on 11 occasions from people wishing to remain anonymous about said illegal activities.

During this period, Crête made appointments with customers in Warwick “near the Yum Yum factory, […] in the Camital parking lot on rue des Buttes, […] in the parking lot of the Caisse populaire [et] at the Victoriaville BMR”.

“An informant told the SQ that Crête was selling cocaine in the bars of Warwick”, it is written.

He placed his cocaine in plastic containers of Tylenol and spoke to the cell phone about “pizza” orders as a code linked to drug transactions.

On October 26, 2022, the SQ searched his building and his vehicle.

They seized, among other things, “129.79 grams of cocaine […] including 157 sachets ready for sale, […] 888 cigarettes and 169 Viagra tablets”.

Lawyers also got their hands on $79,300.

Crête has a criminal history of possession of narcotics, assault causing bodily harm, mischief, theft and impaired driving.

Confiscate

It is for these reasons that the Attorney General of Quebec wishes to apply the Act respecting the confiscation, administration and allocation of the proceeds and instruments of illegal activities in this file.

At the time of writing these lines, the date of the court case had not yet been set.

The parties must complete the steps provided for in the case protocol and register the case for trial and judgment no later than January 4, 2024.
