Quarterly Reports: Condensed Presentation and Inadmissible Interpretations

Wien Energie was a stable, economical company at all times – the result benefits the best customer price

Vienna (OTS) Wien Energie rejects the interpretations surrounding the current “profil” reporting on internal quarterly reports by MA5. It was always emphasized that Wien Energie was and is a solid, economical company with the best credit rating at all times. A good result is essential in order to be able to supply two million people even in an international energy crisis with the most uncertain forecasts for the winter and to be able to make long-term investments worth millions in the conversion of the energy system. The fact that the company, as is now widely known, required high levels of liquidity from the City of Vienna and the federal government to cover short-term deposits on the energy exchange at the height of the international energy crisis is not inconsistent with this. Earnings and liquidity are by definition two completely different variables.

In reporting, individual figures are taken out of context and presented in abbreviated form. For example, the internal quarterly reports of MA5 do not show any figures for the sales subsidiary Wien Energie Vertriebs GmbH & Co KG, which is responsible for customer business. Or valuations of short-term balance sheet liabilities are shown as of the reporting date without also considering the corresponding assets on the assets side of the balance sheet. The compressed presentation of the economic development in the internal reports mentioned does not represent an overall picture, the interpretations are therefore not permissible.

Any scope is passed on to customers

Apart from that, it was and is always in Wien Energie’s interest to make good offers to its customers. In the summer/autumn of 2022, Wien Energie was the cheapest provider in all of Vienna. The customers who formed a bond back then still benefit today from the best prices in the market region. Unlike many other market participants, Wien Energie has taken on tens of thousands of new customers throughout the past year, even in the most difficult phases, and has always been able to offer contracts. As of April 1, Wien Energie is one of the first major providers to lower the gas price for new customers to around 9 cents net – with a 12-month price guarantee. Of course, the company will continue to invest in the best customer price any leeway it has through good results or a permanently changed market situation.
