Answering this question, on the afternoon of February 3, Mr. Ha Sy Dong – Permanent Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People’s Committee shared with PV Dan Viet.
Mr. Dong said that in previous years, Quang Tri asked for rice support for the people during the Lunar New Year and the Government agreed.
This year, on January 15, the People’s Committee of Quang Tri province issued document No. 283 requesting the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs and the Ministry of Finance to consider submitting to the Prime Minister for 991.5 tons of rice to support 13,634 households. (66,102 people) under social protection, poor households of ethnic minorities, and mountainous areas are facing difficulties during the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin in 2024.
However, after reviewing the regulations, the subjects who need to ask the Government for rice support are hungry households. But this year, through investigation and review, there is no household in Quang Tri province that is hungry or has missed meals.
Furthermore, after balancing resources, Quang Tri province feels it can take care of itself and give the people a prosperous Tet. Therefore, the People’s Committee of Quang Tri province decided to withdraw the request to support rice during the 2024 Dragon Festival.

Mr. Dong shared, a more important reason when Quang Tri withdrew its request for rice support is that this province wants to convey the message: Quang Tri strives, asserts itself, and rises out of poverty. Provincial leaders hope this message will be spread to every citizen. From there, each person will change from awareness to action, making efforts to develop the economy so that life becomes more prosperous and happy.

121,446 gifts came to the people
Leaders of the People’s Committee of Quang Tri province, as of February 2 (December 23 of the lunar calendar), this province has no hungry households in need of support. In case a household suddenly suffers from hunger in the locality, the People’s Committees of districts, towns and cities in the area themselves balance the local budget to support the people.
Leaders of the People’s Committee of Huong Hoa and Dakrong districts – the two most difficult mountainous districts in Quang Tri affirmed that during the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin in 2024, there will be no cases of people lacking hunger. The districts have prepared local budget reserves (from 200 million VND – 300 million VND) to have a support plan if there is a sudden case of hunger among the people in the area.

In addition to reviewing hungry households and proactively preparing the above funds, party committees and authorities at all levels in Quang Tri province also perform well in visiting, giving gifts, and supporting policy beneficiaries. .
Specifically, as of February 2 (December 23 of the lunar calendar), the entire Quang Tri province has awarded 121,446 gifts to people with meritorious services, policy families, the poor, near-poor, and social welfare beneficiaries. Associations, the elderly, children in difficult circumstances, workers and other subjects, with a total budget of nearly 60.7 billion VND. Of which, gifts from the President are 25,963 gifts (7.9 billion VND), gifts from the local budget are 18,002 gifts (6.3 billion VND), gifts from socialized sources and other legal sources are 19,214 gifts (8.3 billion VND). billions dong).
