Quality infrastructure in Paraguay for the benefit of the productive sector

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Minister of Industry and Trade, Javier Giménez, received representatives of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), who identified opportunities to improve infrastructure at the local level. They also highlighted the importance of the MIC’s participation in this process.

The director of Industrial Policy of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MIC), Aníbal Giménez, highlighted the importance of strengthening the quality infrastructure in Paraguay, involving various actors such as companies, the State, laboratories, standardization bodies, among others.

He also said that credibility in the quality system can boost exports and access to competitive markets, both nationally and internationally, which is why he highlights the need to comply with international standards in order to compete in the global market.

He also mentioned that UNIDO experts identified areas for improvement in Paraguay’s quality infrastructure and highlighted the role that the Ministry of Industry and Commerce plays in strengthening this infrastructure.

Giménez said that this joint work between the MIC and UNIDO is expected to improve the quality of infrastructure in the country and position the Ministry of Industry and Commerce as a benchmark in the sector.

Mappings

The representative of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, Javier Fernández, explained that the organization carried out mappings with different actors on the state of the quality infrastructure in the country, which includes standards, regulations, conformity assessment, metrology, accreditation and standardization.

The MIC said that the analysis revealed several opportunities for Paraguay to improve its quality infrastructure, especially in areas that will boost its insertion in local and international trade.

“There is great interest in strengthening the different dimensions of the quality infrastructure in Paraguay and in ensuring a greater role for the MIC. This system is essential for compliance with the Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade of the Marrakech Agreement (AMC), which allows countries to compete on equal terms in global trade,” he said.
