Qualcomm has unveiled two new smartphone processors, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and 7 Gen 1.
The system-on-a-chip (SoC), system on a chip in French, is engraved in 4 nm, once morest 5 nm for its predecessor. Recently, Qualcomm formalized an improved version of its Gen 1 chip, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. The latter should equip the majority of high-end smartphones that will be released this year.
Qualcomm’s new chip will have a reworked Adreno graphics processing unit (GPU), Hexagon DSP and 5G X65 modem. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 thus promises to be 10% more powerful than its ancestor but above all less energy-consuming. Up to 30%. A gain that should allow manufacturers to offer terminals that will last a full day on a single charge.
Many changes
The processor will also support 8K screens, a refresh rate of 144 Hz, and HGL, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision formats. On the connectivity side, we promise compatibility with Bluetooth 5.3 and Wifi 6E.
“The full arsenal of Snapdragon Elite Gaming features delivers desktop-grade realism and reaction times, while support for Bluetooth audio and Snapdragon Sound technology adds premium wireless audio and immersive”, is bragging Qualcomm.
About fifteen brands have already announced that they want to adopt the new processor. The first models are expected in the third quarter of 2022. Asus has revealed in a press release that its ROG Phone 6 will use the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.
