Qu Yingyan – Discount | Life Marathon | Headline Daily

From eating a meal to buying a floor, the word that everyone likes to hear when paying the bill should be the word “discount”. 10% off is good, 20% off is better, if there is a discount, I always feel that I am making a profit. However, in the same transaction, if the discount is not the price, but the product, that is to say, that floor, the concrete is discounted, the area is discounted; that meal, the quantity and quality of the meal are discounted, and even the service attitude of the waiter is also discounted. How will you react?

Of course: there is nothing wrong, the goods are not right! It turns out that when the discount involves not money, but physical goods, services, and even people, everyone will feel that there is a problem.

Earlier, the university accepted JUPAS enrollment. Due to the decline in the number of students this year, the University of Hong Kong, the highest institution in Hong Kong, announced the latest admissions arrangements, announcing flexible admissions this year and discounts for students’ admission scores.

If the new HKDSE candidates “miss” in Chinese, English or any elective subject and fail to obtain 3 or above grades, following a “10% discount” on the total score, they still reach the expected admission score for the desired subject, and they will have the opportunity to obtain it following an interview record. In short, if you fail the English subject, you still have the opportunity to enter the University of Hong Kong.

In the past, HKU students were known as English, and the colonial era was the cradle of government officials. However, with discounted admissions, students who do not pass the standard in Chinese or English will have the opportunity to enter HKU, and the language level of college students will decline. It seems to be the future trend.
Leading universities offer discounts to grab customers, how might other universities not respond? Therefore, PolyU also introduced flexible handling of admission results, changing the original minimum requirements for admission to degree programmes: Chinese, English, Mathematics, Liberal Studies and two elective subjects in the order of “Three-Three-Two-Two-Three-Three”. One grade lower than one grade will also be considered as appropriate (provided that the best five subjects achieve 26 points). .

Some people think that this is an opportunity for students who missed out. The problem is that the wood of the pillars must not be of discounted quality. The standard is set, and it must not be lowered due to insufficient enrollment.
College students are the future of society. If there are not enough students this year, the number of places should be reduced instead of lowering the admission requirements in order to continue to ask for government funding. This time, the University of Hong Kong takes the lead in recruiting students who do not meet the standards, which will bring a domino effect to Hong Kong’s higher education. The threshold for those diplomas and associate degrees is believed to be even worse.
