The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is the roof of the world, the water tower of Asia, the third pole of the earth, and an important ecological security barrier for our country. The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Ecological Protection Law will come into effect on September 1, 2023.
On April 26 this year, the second meeting of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People’s Congress voted to pass the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Ecological Protection Law. This law has 7 chapters and 63 articles. It insists on ecological protection first, focuses on the main contradictions, special problems, and outstanding characteristics of ecological protection on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and coordinates the promotion of comprehensive management, systemic governance, and source governance of mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes, grass, sand, and ice. Ecological protection and sustainable development provide legal protection.
The enactment and implementation of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Ecological Protection Law is of great significance to strengthening the ecological protection of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, building a highland of national ecological civilization, promoting sustainable economic and social development, and realizing the harmonious coexistence of man and nature.
