Strong typhoon Xuan Lan Nuo hit South Korea on Monday (5th) night and moved northeast over the waters near the southeast of Jeju Island. The South Korea Meteorological Agency has issued typhoon warnings for Jeju Island and its surrounding waters, as well as parts of South Jeju Island. Xuan Lannuo passed through the country in the early morning of Tuesday (6th), bringing violent storms and causing at least one person to go missing; then it blew into the sea, and domestic flights at airports across the country resumed one following another.
Xuan Lan Nuo made landfall near Geoje City, South Gyeongsang Province, on the southern coast of South Korea at regarding 4:50 a.m. on Tuesday, and left the front sea of Ulsan at regarding 7:10 a.m. Affected by Xuan Lannuo’s transit, many places encountered storm disasters and power outages. South Korea’s Ministry of Administration and Security on Sunday (4th) activated the three-level response of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, raising the typhoon and rain crisis alert level from “caution” to “severe”.
The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province in South Korea was put on the highest level of alert on Monday. All kindergartens and elementary schools in Seoul will be closed for one day on Tuesday, and middle schools will decide whether to attend school according to the actual situation. According to the South Korea Airports Corporation on Monday, 361 flights across South Korea have been cancelled in the past two days due to the influence of Xuan Lannuo.
